Fluid Circle of Life, 2002

Drawing Center, New York

My work had jumped off its pedestal a while ago to connect with the viewer more immediately. Then it wrapped itself around my body to move around in space. Now the work has become the space in which the viewer can be immersed in and be part of its narrative. As much as my work has always been autobiographical, the boundaries of self and other are becoming increasingly blurred.

Fluid speaks about the circle of life. In its three stages, egg-like shapes give birth to the flower-liquid, which flows through the show, eventually, in death, the ultimate moment of relaxation, the flower liquid splashes on the floor and runs down the sidewalk. In between birth and death, on the walk through the installation, the viewer's presence is reflected in an illustration of the struggle of Life.
